Emilie Flamme is a third-year student at Amherst College (USA), where she is a double major in Architecture Studies and Russian. She just completed a semester at HSE Moscow, during which she took Russian language and content courses. HSE News Service caught up with Émilie to talk about her studies at HSE, her thesis, and her life in Moscow.

Leora Eisenberg recently completed a semester at HSE as part of the ‘Middlebury in Moscow’ programme run by Middlebury College in Vermont. Although she had grown up speaking Russian, getting used to Moscow didn’t come easily, at least at first but she came to truly enjoy her experience here.

Organized by the Extreme Sports Club, HSE Camping Weekend is a great chance to spend two days out of the city, meet a large number of Russian students, and enjoy the beauty of the countryside. Sitting around the campfire and singing guitar songs together is something that will definitely give you warm memories for a long time.

You’re accepted to HSE! You’re going to Moscow! Now what? For many of our international students, Russia is a big change in terms of climate, culture, language, and city life. But not to worry—HSE has you covered. Read on for some pointers on how to prepare for the move and what to do once you arrive.

HSE students who are interested in moving from a dorm to an apartment can obtain financial support from the university. For the 2019/2020 academic year, HSE students who live in a dorm will be offered 1,350 monthly reimbursements amounting to RUB 10,000.

Last autumn HSE’s project ‘Teach for HSE’ commissioned an internal study by HSE Centre for Institutional Research. The study aimed to see a broad picture of how faculty members and students perceive benefits and challenges of teaching and studying in an international classroom.

We are sure that everybody heard about contemporary Korean culture at least once. It is becoming more and more popular each day. A lot of young boys and girls (especially girls) cannot wait to listen to a new song from their favorite K-pop bands or watch the newest K-drama series. But not everyone is familiar with the life of locals in the Land of morning calm. So, on the first Culture Café of the spring we gathered to learn about just that.

On February 20^th , we gathered again for yet another Culture Café, this time dedicated to sunny Columbia. The sounds of energetic Latin music filled the halls of our university on this typical grey winter day in Moscow while the Columbian students presented their history and culture to the audience.

On February 6th, at the beginning of the new semester, we have resumed our regular Culture Cafes events. Traditionally, members of the ESN HSE Moscow told foreign students about their home country — Russia.

Students of the School of Asian Studies rang in the Korean and Chinese New Years, respectively, with lively celebrations this past week.
