In March and April, an HSE Olympiad competition for students and graduates took place in Russia and other countries, including the USA, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Vietnam. About 9,500 people registered for the competition, an increase of 25% over last year. One-third of all participants were HSE students and graduates. The winners of the Olympiad will be at an advantage when applying for HSE’s Master’s programmes corresponding to the competitions they participated in.
Marek Soukup from Masaryk University in Brno, the Czech Republic, is currently studying at HSE St Petersburg as an exchange student on the Applied Economics and Mathematical Methods MA programme. Lijia Lin is a first-year student in the English-taught Strategic Corporate Finance Master’s Programme at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences. He was born and raised in Beijing and, after finishing high school, studied economics and mathematics at the University of Michigan in the United States. When Lijia Lin graduated in December 2015, his advisor suggested that he continued his education at the Higher School of Economics.
For Vietnamese students, studying abroad in Western countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, or Australia is a popular trend nowadays. Giang Dinh, a student at HSE’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, believes that receiving an education in Russia, particularly at HSE, is one of the best choices a student can make. Like many international students who choose to study at the Higher School of Economics, Martin Inderhaug, a native of Bergen, Norway, boasts a rich background marked by a diverse set of interests.
