Having fallen in love with Moscow and the Russian culture during an exchange programme three years ago at HSE, Alis Maria Endres, a native of Germany, decided that she wanted to return to the university to complete a Master’s degree in management. In order to be able to study in Russian, Alis Maria first enrolled in HSE's International Preparatory Year programme.
Attracted by the famous mathematical education in Russia, Alfredo Alejandro De la Fuente Briceño decided to travel halfway around the world to enrol in HSE’s Master’s Programme in Statistical Learning Theory, a new joint programme between HSE and Skoltech aimed at training the next generation of scientists to carry out fundamental research and work on challenging new problems in statistical learning theory. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at the National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru, the 25-year-old was encouraged by several professors and friends to try a programme in a different language and tradition and step outside his comfort zone.
Neeraj Mazumder, a native of India, is a first-year student in the Master’s programme Prototyping Future Cities offered by HSE’s Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism. He received his Bachelor’s in Architecture from Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University in Hyderabad and came to Moscow to study how cities can be analyzed and smart cities designed.
Zhang Caiyu is a Master’s student at HSE – St. Petersburg. Originally from China, Zhang Caiyu moved to Kiev, Ukraine as a Bachelor’s student, where she majored in the Russian language. Of course, it then made total sense to continue her education here in Russia. She is now a student in HSE’s 'Experience Economy: Hospitality and Tourism Management' programme. Master’s programme in Governance of Science, Technology, and Innovation has been offered by HSE ISSEK since 2014. It helps students acquire knowledge about science, technology and innovation management and policy. Below, Dirk Meissner, Academic Supervisor of the programme, talks about its key features and development. Besides, first and second-year international students describe their reasons for enrolling in the programme and share their experience of studying at HSE.
Amand van Rossum, student of a MA Programme in International Relations, has been part of the International Students’ Association since its foundation, first serving as its Vice-Chair and then becoming the Student Advisor and PR Officer. He has talked to HSE News Service about international students’ life in Moscow and the role International Student Association intends to play in helping students better adapt at HSE.
Registration is now open for the Open Doors: Russian Scholarship Project, Russia’s first competition for international students applying to Master’s programmes. With registration open until January 15, 2018, the competition consists of two remote stages: a portfolio contest and an online contest. The first stage will take place from December 1 to January 15.
On November 15, international student admissions for undergraduate and Master’s programmes opened. This year, prospective students can apply to two programmes simultaneously. They’ll be able to track the application process online in their personal profile on the HSE website where they will receive notifications on the stages of their application’s review and decisions by the admissions committee. The documents for visa invitation can also be submitted there.
