Wai Yan Phyo Naing from Yangon, Myanmar is a student of HSE Master’s programme in Socioeconomic and Political Development of Modern Asia of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. He has told HSE News Service about the similarities and differences between his home city and Moscow.

International students enrolled in fee-paying places of HSE Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in 2017 are eligible for tuition fee discounts. In March and April, an HSE Olympiad competition for students and graduates took place in Russia and other countries, including the USA, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Vietnam. About 9,500 people registered for the competition, an increase of 25% over last year. One-third of all participants were HSE students and graduates. The winners of the Olympiad will be at an advantage when applying for HSE’s Master’s programmes corresponding to the competitions they participated in.

From this new academic year HSE students will receive scholarship cards bearing a unique HSE design chosen by the students themselves.

International Student Support and ESN HSE are making sure foreign students get plenty of cultural experiences while in Russia. Last month they organized a school visit and introduced foreign students to one of the most important parts of the Russianeducation system.

The Global Youth Leadership Development Program provides a unique platform for global youth to gain a nuanced understanding of global affairs. The ultimate aim of the programme is to expose a diverse group of participants from around the world to the idea of leadership, which my fellow participants and I feel was successfully achieved during the pilot programme that was launched in India in March 2017 to meet the specific needs of the Global Youth Leaders.
