On August 16, the HSE Summer University officially came to an end. The graduation ceremony was an opportunity for participants, teachers and programme administrators to celebrate yet another successful season – and the Summer University’s fifth birthday.

In early June, Johnson Chun Shing Chow, a native of Hong Kong, arrived in Moscow to study Russian, complete an internship and learn more about Russian culture. Leandro Cassius, a recent graduate from HSE’s Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, has long been interested in languages and international affairs. He actually started learning Russian on his own when he was 14 years old and still living in his native Brazil. He would later spend a year taking a Russian course at Belgorod State University before being admitted to HSE.

The 10th International Symposium of Overseas Indonesian Students Association Alliance (OISAA) will take place from July 23–26 at HSE’s Moscow campus. The event has brought together opinion leaders, experts and students from Russia and Southeast Asia to discuss the role of young Indonesians in the development of Indonesia in the fields of education, culture, tourism and healthcare.

Prep Year Graduates Ready to Make a Start
On July 12, HSE officially congratulated the graduates of the 2018 Preparatory Year programme. The 10-month intensive course, which was introduced at HSE in 2015, is designed for international students with little or no knowledge of Russian who wish to undertake Russian-taught full-degree programmes. The curriculum focuses on basic language skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) and students are able to study in their chosen academic field (humanities, economics, or engineering). This year, young graduates from 40 different countries attended the ceremony, where they were congratulated by their teachers, friends and families.

Renowned Professors Offer New Courses for Summer University Students

HSE’s Summer University officially opened on June 20. Now in its fourth week, the Summer University is in full swing at three of HSE’s four campuses– Moscow, St Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod. Participants continue coming to Russia for courses on topics such as politics, history, economics, and Russian and Eurasian cultures. Most courses last two to four weeks and all of them are taught in English.

On July 8, amendments to Russian migration legislation regulating the registration of foreign citizens coming to the Russian Federation came into effect. They concern, in particular, HSE’s international employees and students. The most important change: you now must be registered at the place where you actually live.
