Russian students and teachers were not the only ones to actively participate in HSE Day on September 9; many foreigners who study or work at the university took part as well. Numerous activities enriching the celebration could be enjoyed without any knowledge of Russian — for example, Speed ​​Dating, Dance Battle, and a variety of sporting events. However, some sites during the festival had a special English-language programme.

On the 9th of September the fourth HSE Day went ahead in Gorky Park. It began with an event for parents of aspiring young university applicants and ended with a student initiation for first years and a concert by the rock band Splean. On August 15, the second HSE Summer University drew to a close. The number of participants in this year's programmer nearly tripled with 103 students coming from 15 countries. This included both independent students as well at five organized groups from Seoul National University, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Miami University, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

From July 4 to 25, the HSE Summer University welcomed thirty Korean students from the Seoul National University who had come to study Russian and learn more about modern life in Russia as part of SNU’s programme in Moscow.

The first sailing regatta between HSE and Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) was held in the Strogino water meadows and served as the beginning of a new tradition for student club competitions. Students from the two universities’ teams agreed to form a single team to participate in next year’s world sailing championship, which can be considered the main outcome of the regatta. And for those who are more interested in numbers, the teams were tied for most of the day, but it was MSU that won the five races with a score of 3:2.

On 31st January to 2nd February 2015 HSE held its annual International Winter School. The Department of Public Policy and Master Programme in Political Analysis and Public Policy headed by professor Nina Belyaeva took part in the event. The Winter School welcomed participants from Germany, France, China, Japan and other countries.

In the second semester of the study exchange at HSE more than thirty new international students are arriving from our partner universities in Italy, Austria, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Finland, South Korea and the USA. Another 30 foreign students who came for the autumn semester will be staying on. Half of them had planned initially just to spend one term at HSE but they liked it so much they decided to stay until the end of the academic year.
