Thuy Tien Huynh from Vietnam is a second-year student in the Asian and African Studies Bachelor’s programme of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs, majoring in Arabic. Student international academic mobility has been an integral part of life at HSE University for a long time. Every year, hundreds of HSE students study abroad at universities all over the world. Even now, during the pandemic, many of them did not come back to Russia, opting instead to continue their studies abroad. Students spoke with the HSE News Service about life in the university dorms during quarantine and taking their programme courses and exams online.
The HSE Centre for International Preparatory Programmes is launching an intensive online course of Russian as a Foreign Language. The course will start on October 1, 2020 and will be part of a blended preparatory programme that aims to help international students gain proficiency in Russian so that they can enrol in Russian-taught undergraduate and graduate programmes. Registration for the course is already open.
The classes in the Master of Data Science programme started three months ago. This is the first Master’s degree in Russia offered fully online, with all the courses delivered on Coursera. The students of the first cohort and one of the instructors have shared their impressions.
In the event of unfavorable conditions or border closures due to the pandemic, HSE University will be organizing online learning with mandatory support from professors for newly enrolled international students. To do this, the University has all the required infrastructure.
HSE Summer University will begin on July 15 this year. All courses will be taught online via Zoom. The registration deadline has been extended until July 1, 2020.

An advent calendar with gifts is usually seen as a source of entertainment for children, but away with conventions. Everyone loves to receive presents, but HSE loves to give them. Each day between December 1st and 24th, the windows of a virtual calendar will display links to some of HSE’s most interesting courses, lectures, and events set to take place soon, as well as recordings from past events. The result will be 24 presents for absolutely everyone to enjoy.
