Have you decorated your room? Have you bought tangerines? Have you prepared presents for your friends and relatives? Hurry up, New Year is coming! That is why we devoted our last of this year Culture Café to the Russian New Year!

Students of the School of Asian Studies rang in the Korean and Chinese New Years, respectively, with lively celebrations this past week.

An advent calendar with gifts is usually seen as a source of entertainment for children, but away with conventions. Everyone loves to receive presents, but HSE loves to give them. Each day between December 1st and 24th, the windows of a virtual calendar will display links to some of HSE’s most interesting courses, lectures, and events set to take place soon, as well as recordings from past events. The result will be 24 presents for absolutely everyone to enjoy.

The Lunar New Year, or Tet holiday, is the most important and largest festival of the year in Vietnam. It is when the Vietnamese express their respects for their ancestors and welcome the lunar New Year with family members. The date of Tet is decided by the lunar calendar; this year, it began on Friday, February 16, and lasts until next weekend. 2018 is known as the year of the Golden Dog.

The traditional dip into icy water on the celebration of Jesus’ Baptism united brave HSE international students on January 18^th for the third time.  The event was organised by ESN HSE. Two words sum up their impressions – ‘unique’ and ‘delightful’. The event took place at VDNKH where organizers arranged all the necessary services, including hot tea, a tent and medical assistance – which, luckily, wasn’t needed.

Today it is not enough for us just to ski or to hang out, we are always looking for new impressions and knowledge. This festival will combine all that we have ever wished for: skiing, entertainment, and popular science events. Everyone is welcome to join us at Gorki Gorod in Krasnaya Polyana for the first smart ski festival ID FEST from January 28 to  February 4.

From January 9, HSE students will be able to get a 50 percent discount at VDNH rink upon presenting their social cards.

On September 14, the Higher School of Economics is again welcoming guests at Moscow’s Gorky Park to celebrate HSE Day – an extraordinary event that has become a tradition of citywide proportions. HSE Day has a lot to offer for everyone and is open to international students and faculty members.

The 27th Open Camping Weekend organized by the HSE Extreme Sports Club was held on May 26-28. About 350 HSE students, staff members and graduates took part in this event.

The first official fun-run organized by HSE as part of events to mark the 25^th anniversary of its founding has taken place in Gorky Park. It drew 290 participants.
