Rakib Hassan Pran, from Bangladesh, is currently doing his Master’s in Applied Statistics with Network Analysis at the HSE International Laboratory for Applied Network Research. Before enrolling at HSE, Rakib worked in information security wing of a Bank (Exim Bank BD) in Bangladesh. He got a leave from his job to study at HSE University in Moscow.

Every October, HSE University sums up the results of that year’s international student admissions campaign. This year, due to the pandemic, the University quickly reorganized admissions procedures and began holding all events and consultations remotely. In total, 9,324 students from 156 countries applied to undergraduate and graduate programmes at HSE University. For the 2020/2021 year, HSE welcomed 2,214 students from all over the world to its campuses. This is an 11% increase in international enrollments from last year.

HSE University continues to expand its online presence with the launch of a Spanish-language admissions website. Now the University is making it even easier for Spanish-speaking students to apply to one of Russia's best universities.

Amiran Karatsev won the 2020 HSE Global Scholarship Competition (GSC) in Tajikistan in subjects that are not usually taught in high school: philosophy and psychology. Amiran spoke to HSE News Service about the advantages of participating in person, why some of the Competition tasks have no correct answer, and how to not only effectively prepare for it, but have fun while doing it. In the new joint master's programme 'Comparative Russian and Eurasian Politics', which will begin accepting applications in 2021, students will divide their time betwee University College London and HSE University - Saint Petersburg. Upon graduation, students will earn a double degree awarded by both universities. The programme is of interest of those who want to study politics in Russia and the post-Soviet region and gain a deeper knowledge of the area that will equip them for region-related careers or further study at the doctoral level.

Many international students study at HSE University St. Petersburg's English-taught programmes. They come to Russia from different corners of the world for different reasons: to learn the Russian language, to live in a new place, or to immerse themselves in an intercultural environment. Several undergraduate students shared their impressions of studying at the university, interacting with classmates and lecturers, and living in St. Petersburg.

Ismail Kayali, from Aleppo, Syria, earned his MS in Big Data Systems from the HSE Faculty of Business and Management in 2018. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Informatics and Computer Engineering at the HSE School of Data Analysis and Artificial Intelligence.
