We at HSE University Support and Career Centre for International Students and Alumni aim to provide access to career opportunities for both Russian and English speaking international students by consulting employers and students on peculiarities of Russian law regulating employment of foreigners.
We work in tandem with HSE Career Center that provides career guidance and participate in organization of career events for HSE University international students and alumni.
Requirements
Legal status
According to the Federal Law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation" of 25.07.2002 N 115-FZ, section 13, you can go through a simplified procedure of employment while being a full-time HSE student (Bachelor, Master or Specialist) and do not need to provide a work permit to be employed. Your student status allows you to provide a shortened list of documents: a certificate confirming your full-time HSE student status and basic migration documents that are already on hand.
However, after graduation you need to go through a standard procedure, which makes hiring process less appealing to the employer. In order to retain a simplified employment procedure, you might consider applying for RVPO (Temporary Residence Permit for Education) during your studies.
Other RVPO advantages:
- Your permit will be valid until the end of your study course + extra 180 calendar days;
- Your visa will be reserved for the entire period of RVPO without any need of annual extension;
- You will be eligible for free medical services under the obligatory medical insurance policy.
Learn more about RVPO following this link.
Russian language
Local labor market requires good Russian speaking skills (B1 and higher): most communication is in Russian, even in the offices of international companies. There are some vacancies that don’t require Russian, but they are difficult to find and in high demand. To become a more competitive candidate, you can take some extra courses of Russian as a foreign language - one of the options is HSE Russian Language Centre.
You can also check our Useful links and apps page where we aggregated tools for learning Russian.
