Visa and Registration Extension
Extending visa and migration registration is mandatory for international students to confirm their legal status in Russia.
Students who require a study visa



When to:
1) Extend visa: no earlier than 90 calendar days and no later than 45 calendar days prior to your visa expiration date. You may extend the visa for up to one year.
To extend your visa, you must prepare all required documents and personally submit them to the Visa and Registration Centre.
2) Extend migration registration at the place of your residence: on the next working day after you receive a new visa

IMPORTANT: if you leave Russia and then return, you must re-register after your arrival in Russia.
Students who do not require a study visa


When: no later than 30 calendar days before your current registration runs out. You can extend the migration registration for up to 1 year starting from the date of your arrival.
If you continue your studies further, you will need to extend your registration accordingly. Along with your migration registration, your migration card must be extended as well.
IMPORTANT: if you leave Russia and then return, you must re-register after your arrival in Russia.

Note: If you decide to visit other Russian cities, you must to register at your place of residence in another city, and then, after returning to Moscow, re-register in Moscow.
